IMNR designs and implements innovative solutions in the non-ferrous and rare metals field through scientific and technical research, aiming to answer to the innovation and business needs of its partners.The Institute's structure consists of 4 main laboratories: Ecotechnologies and environment protection; Advanced materials and technologies; Nanostructured materials; Physical-chemical and structural analyses.

The Institute is conducting scientific research and activities of technological engineering for: processes and equipment for the production, transport, distribution and use of electricity and heat; Energy efficiency in production, transport and use; Environmental protection from the effects of energy processes and equipment.

The Institute is conducting research and development activities of public interest in the fields of construction, urbanism, sustainable territorial development and housing, which include: fundamental and applied research - sectoral and pre-normative, for substantiating the technical and economic regulations specific to the fields of activity; elaboration of technical and economic regulations in order to ensure the essential quality requirements imposed on the constructions and related installations, including in order to increase the energy performance of the constructions; technological development; performs specific regulatory activities, respectively documentation, testing, documentation in the fields of activity, audit, prototyping, analysis, synthesis, pilot programs, realization of functional and physical models, as well as in situ experiments of new products and technologies; creation of specialized databases;

The National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest was set up in 1970 and it is the most important institute in the field of research, development and innovation in information and communication technology (ICT) from Romania.
